Gardening in November


November is the perfect time for many garden activities. From planting to pruning, here are some tips to get your garden ready for summer.


It is also the ideal time to clean up the garden furniture ready for guests and add some flowering plants for colour. Plus get your lawn summer-proofed and ready for the hot summer ahead.


Time to plant food

  • Beans

  • Beetroot

  • Capsicum

  • Carrots

  • Celery

  • Eggplant

  • Herbs

  • Lettuce

  • Parsnip

  • Pumkin

  • Rockmelon

  • Sweet Corn

  • Tomato

  • Zucchini


Time to fertilise

  • Cut your lawn high and fertilise now so that you have lush green well maintained lawn by Christmas.

  • Your roses will love a boost

  • Add a complete fertiliser to your vegetables and summer flowering annuals

  • Daphne, Azalea, Camellia and Rhododendrons will we happy for some food


Time to prune

  • Any growth from spring that is starting to not enjoy the heat like Lavender

  • Your Jasmine can be trimming to keep it under control

  • Pinch off spring blooms to get a few more flowers

  • Prune your native shrubs when they are finished flowering

  • If your climbing roses are finished flowering now is the time to prune. Standard roses will appreciate you removing blooms (as cut flowers for your vase) so they can bloom again.

  • Remove any strawberry runners so the plant can focus on fruit

  • Keep your buxus in shape

Time to mulch

It is the perfect time of year to remulch your garden. Not only does it look so much better when you have a freshly mulched garden it protects all the roots for summer.
